Hey Laney! Why don’t we start up by introducing ourselves…I’m Chanelle…wha hey hey hey lol I’m Courtney J….first off I wanna say I love ur name, is it short for anything?… I’m Courtney T.
Hey Girls! Thanks Courtney J. Yes it is. My real name is Magdalena, and my mom nicknamed me Laney.

How old were you when you realized you wanted to be a singer?
It’s hard to pin point exactly *when* I realized I wanted to become a singer, because, I can’t remember a time when I didn’t want to become a singer. Music and performing is just who I am, it’s something I wanted to do from the very beginning.

Do you remember your first performance? What was that like?
My first performance ever as a solo artist, was opening for 98 Degrees last summer, and, it was so absolutely amazing. I probably couldn’t even describe to you through words what I was feeling, because, there were so many….emotions going through me at the time, I felt like I was dreaming, lol, it was incredible, and I just remember not wanting that day to end.

That’s great…what was it like touring with 98 degrees …we’re they nice?
I actually didn’t get to tour with the guys, I would have loved too, but, I did a show with them at Freedom Hill Amphitheater, but, I did meet them, and I actually met them about 3 years ago also, and, yes they are very sweet guys.

Any crazy or embarrassing moments happen on stage yet?
Haha, oh yes! I’m up on stage, getting ready to do my last song at the 98* show, and I was thinking in my head "my first performance couldn’t have gone better, everything is going great, nothing can go wrong now…." WRONG!! As…. I’m starting my last song, everything just stopped, my music, my mic turns off, everything!! My dancers and I kept going though and thank god, we all stayed on the beat, so when the music came back on we were right where we were suppose to be lol.

Aw lol! That’s really, really cool though to just be able to get out there and do what you love. Do you ever get nervous up there, and How do you prepare yourself for a live performance?
Honestly, I don’t really get that nervous, because, performing is just what I do, lol, it’s a natural thing for me. But, I am a very shy person, so, I usually go off by myself even if it’s for 10 mins or so, and just completely relax myself. And pump myself up for the performance.

Yea, you always have to have a little ME time. When did you start writing songs?
Most definitely. Omgosh, I’ve been writing since I was in middle school, I would say. I loved writing poetry. I still do.

Yea, I can relate I’ve been writing songs since I was really little. Where do you get your inspiration to write?
That’s awesome I get inspiration from everything. Certain things going on in my life or in my friends/families life. Relationships or just everyday things. I could be walking down the street and something may just hit me lol! And, I also write about things I haven’t even experienced yet, but, things I dream about also.

So your songs must be very important to you…what was it like to actually go into a studio and record?
It’s amazing, I love going into the studio and just being able to be creative and work with such talented people. I have a lot of fun in the studio.

That’s totally cool! I can’t wait to record my demo, any advice?
Ah, that’s awesome that your recording a demo, I wish you nothing but success!! As for advice, just don’t be afraid to try different things, be creative and try different sounds, and just have fun. That’s your time to be express yourself in your music.

You know what? I love your song ‘Break Me Down’.. you have a beautiful voice, can you tell us a little about it, and some of the other new tracks you did?
Aw well thanks! "Break Me Down" is special to me, because I co-wrote that song, so I’m glad you like it. When I first heard the beat to that song, I was walking into the studio and my producer was playing it, and I ran into the room and said "Please tell me that’s a beat your working on for me!" lol, and then, I took the music home and wrote to it.

Are most of the songs on your album written by you?
We’re in the process of picking out more material, and I am writing a lot, so, I’m hoping that I can do most of the writing on my album.

Is there any messages that you want to send through your songs?
I always want to send messages through my music. I want to touch people’s lives with the songs I record, even if it’s in the slightest way. And, I think with every song, it will touch different people. My main message that I want…to send out is to NEVER ever give up on your dreams.

That’s great because your music is all from YOU, 100% you, how would you describe your sound?
Exactly!! I would describe my sound as r&b/hip hop/pop mixed with some funk and some rap here and there.

I love music that isn’t just one type, so that’s awesome! Who would you say are some of your influences, musically?
Yea, I want to appeal to many different categories, not just limit myself to one. My musical influences….Definitely, Motown Music, I grew up with it. Um….Aretha Franklin, Janet Jackson, P!nk, Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, Hanson, Aerosmith, Madonna. And, so many more lol!

That’s great…okay lets have some fun lol, now for some simple questions…Shakira or Cher?
Ahh hard one, and as much as I like Shakira, I’m gonna have to say Cher, just because, I love her music, and the way she takes control of a stage is unbelievable.

Yea, watch one day everyone is gonna have you along side all those artist.

Onto boy bands!! *sigh* can’t live without them….Backstreet or N*SYNC?
Hanson? *LoL* Just kidding um….Both are very talented, but, I’m gonna go with Backstreet Boys.

I can’t say, because I don’t eat either, to be honest lol. I’m big on Thai, Chinese and Seafood.

I love Christina’s voice. She’s amazing. She’s an incredible vocalist, no doubt.
