We’re kicking off awards season! We’re only weeks away from the Oscars with two major shows in-between, and I think we’re off to the a good start with the People’s Choice Awards last night. I’ve listed my favorite looks and thoughts of the Top 5 Best of the night.

Top 5 Best Dressed Picks: People's Choice Awards

1. Kristen Stewart in Reem Acra
“Twilight” fans waited with baited breath for Kristen Stewart to hit the blue carpet at the awards last night only to find out that she was already in the building. Kristen and her co-stars Robert Pattinson (in Dries Van Noten) and Taylor Lautner (in Dolce & Gabbana) weren’t seen on camera until moments before the categories in which they were nominated were announced. I was stoked when Kristen went on-stage to accept her award for ‘Choice Actress’ because I was finally able to get a good look at her fabulous pearlized sequin chiffon blush mini dress from Reem Acra‘s spring 2011 collection.

In classic KStew style, the dress was shortened to show off her crazy-long legs which only looked more extended with her super-high “Vita” platform slingbacks by Jimmy Choo. The suede black version of the shoe was key as a patent style or an embellished shoe would’ve been too much bling considering her sparkly dress. Jewels were kept to a minimum – she wore a light Chanel bracelet. Her hair was voluminous with soft waves and her make-up was young and fresh. Kristen is off to a great start this year!

2. Selena Gomez in Irina Shabayeva
Selena Gomez almost didn’t make this list, let alone come in at the second top spot. When the “Wizards of Waverly Place” star showed up on the blue carpet in a pale pink Paule Ka mini with an overwhelming shoulder detail for her petite frame, I was a bit put off. Especially with the addition of nude pumps by Giuseppe Zanotti that I didn’t feel complimented the dress at all.

Selena redeemed herself later in the show when she changed into a beautiful printed gown by Irina Shabayeva. The blue, green, and white print almost gave off a butterfly wing effect that was just stunning. I also loved the asymmetric raised center hem to show off her killer ‘Brandaplato Fishnet’ platform booties by Christian Louboutin. This should have been her main look from the start of the night!

3. Taylor Swift in J. Mendel
I’m usually not a fan of Taylor Swift’s style. I love sparkly minis as much as the next girl but for a multi-hit singer, she should have a multi-hit style… not a recycled look. Taylor showed off at the PCA’s that she can work another angle and make it work for her. The Country singer showed up in a soft flowing pleated silk-chiffon dress in a light peach color from J. Mendel‘s spring collection and paired it with nude patent strappy sandals by Prada. I was pleased that she left her signature curly locks pinned up as to not distract from the illusion detail at the bodice and shoulders. I’m still undecided as to whether or not I’m a fan of her bright lip color though.

4. Ashley Tisdale in Farah Angsana
I am in love. Ashley Tisdale looked like a little bottle of sunshine in this frosty weather wearing a printed strapless gown by Farah Angsana. The “Hellcats” star accessorized with Dana Rebecca jewels and a Swarovski clutch, but what really caught my attention – other than her new tan – was how fabulous her hair was styled! Normally these young starlets love any occasion to let their long hair cascade down their backs in shiny waves, but I love how Ashley’s was tousled up and let her gown do the talking. So pretty, A+ all around.

5. Katy Perry in Betsey Johnson
At first glance I didn’t know what to make of Katy Perry’s “prom night-esque” hot pink, purple, and blue dress by Betsey Johnson. After a couple of views, I’ve decided that she looked fabulous in a way only Mrs. Brand could. The People’s Choice Awards is a show where you can relax, you’re not under the same pressure as those who attend the Oscars. I appreciate that Katy kept her look less over-the-top than she would at the VMA’s, but that she didn’t go for demure either. Her dress was fun, as was her Casadei triple platform peep-toe fuchsia pumps adorned with little bows. She reminded me of when I was little and thought I’d grow up to wear the same hot pink gowns as my favorite Barbie. Katy takes risk and last night it really paid off in my eyes.
