On August 27th, MTV.com reported that the first single from The Twilight Saga: New Moon official soundtrack will be Death Cab For Cutie‘s “Meet Me on the Equinox”. The song will premiere on MTV.com on September 13th – the same day at the network’s Video Music Awards.
Death Cab bassist Nick Harmer sat down with MTV News to discuss being a part of the much anticipated soundtrack from the Twilight movie franchise. “We didn’t expect it would be chosen for the first single — we were thinking it would be a part of the soundtrack, maybe,” Harmer laughed. “I have no idea if [‘Twilight’ author] Stephenie Meyer approved it or what. It’s been an exciting process, because we’ve been so removed from it. We were in L.A. for a week and we went into the studio and wrote and recorded the song and submitted it. We didn’t know where anything stood, and then we just got a call last week like, ‘Guess what — your song has been chosen as the first single.’ “
Unlike in Paramore’s music video for “Decode” – the single from the uber-successful Twilight soundtrack, Harmer would like to have New Moon stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner in the music video for “Meet Me on the Equinox” because they think it will help the song gain popularity. “The safe route would be to go with the straight performance video, like that Paramore video. But I don’t think we’re going to be outside in the woods … you know, been there, done that. I don’t think we’re going to try to cut a narrative in where we’re all dressed up like vampires running around with fake teeth in,” he laughed. “I’m of the mind-set that the more Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner you can throw in the video, the more popular the video is going to be. Nobody wants to look at us, so we’ll probably be standing in the shadows.” [Read more…]
