Angel is a sunny California girl whose magazine cover looks are surpassed only by volumes of talent. If she wasn’t so dedicated to being the best at everything she does, it would be easy to say that she’s just plain lucky. The former Jive recording artist (lead singer of her girl group No Secrets) definitely makes it look – and sound – effortless, whether she’s performing at charity events, working in the studio to complete her debut album on Midas Records, or working out the choreography to the songs she’s writing, Angel does it all with the grace and ease of a true star.
Hey Angel! How are you?
I’m good thanks!
What made you decide to leave No Secrets and go solo?
It was always my dream to be a solo artist and when all the problems started between management with No Secrets I figured it was a good time to go solo. I still treasure my time with No Secrets though because it was a great learning experience.
How does recording on your own differ from being in the studio with a group?
I have a lot more input as to what I want the song to sound like. With a group you have so many different people with different ideas.
Do you feel any pressure to have the same success as a solo artist, that you had with No Secrets?
I certainly hope I am successful but I really don’t feel any pressure about it.
Out of all the songs you’ve written for your album, which would you say has the most personal meaning to you?
Probably "To Forgive You". That song means a lot to me.
So you’ve recently filmed a video for "How Can I Lie", can you tell us more about the concept behind that?
Basically it’s about my friends and I going to the prom and deciding we would rather go dancing instead. So we go to a club and change out of our prom clothes and dance. (lol) Then we get back into our prom clothes and go home. It was a lot of fun.
We hear you’re starting your own clothing line. What can you tell us about that?
It’s called "Aspire by Angel". It’s mostly comfortable clothes and accessories. It’s very cool! (lol)
How do you deal with being away from friends and family while on the road?
It’s hard to be away from my friends. I miss them. The good part is my family always travels with me. My mom and brother go everywhere I go! (lol) I’m too young to be on the road without my mom and my mom doesn’t want to be away from my brother. So we all go! (lol)
Since you’re still in school is it hard for you to balance homework between recording and shows?
It is hard. I have been so busy that I have to stay up until really late to get my school work done. But it’s OK. I get it done. My education is really important to me.
Soon you’ll be starting a tour for VH1′s Save the Music. How exactly did you get involved with that, and what can we expect during your show?
I am excited about the tour. I’m not exactly sure how VH1 got involved but I know they were interested and contacted the record label. The show is awesome. I have four guy dancers who are great! I perform four songs and the "How Can I Lie" video is shown. It’s cool!
We really love your song "Once Upon Our Time". Are there any plans for that as a future single, and will it be on the album?
It will definitely be on the album. It could possibly be a single. I know there is some talk about using it for a movie.
Do you have any plans for the release of your album that you can tell us about?
Not yet. (lol)
Thanks so much for taking the time to answer our questions. Best of luck with your album!
Thank you so much!!
