Kevin Jonas [Jonas Brothers]
L-R: Joe, Nick & Kevin Jonas

KJ: Hey Courtney, it’s Kevin. How you doin’?
FV: Hey! I’m good, how are you?
KJ: Very good.

New album! We’re excited; we know you’ve got to be. How many songs did you write and record before choosing the final tracks?
We wrote and recorded different numbers for each; but we wrote … oh so many songs. I would probably have to say we probably wrote somewhere around the mid upper 20’s for songs; then we recorded fifteen songs.

We know you recently filmed the video for your newest single “S.O.S.”, what can you tell us about the shoot?
The shoot was interesting, I had a great time. We were on the Queen Mary, and it was just one of those really amazing times we had. It was great, the people in the video … like Moises from Hannah Montana, and all that stuff. We had a really good aspect; we wanted to act a little bit more in the video. Compared to being more of just a performance video, you know what I mean.

Well, I did see the video; I thought it was really good.
Oh, thank you very much, we appreciate that a lot. Yeah, we’re very proud of it and visually … the colors and everything. We’re really happy with it all.

Having songs sparked from personal experiences, which one of you guys had the “S.O.S.” date?
Nick was the one who wrote that song actually, by himself. It’s my favorite song though to perform, and it’s one of my favorites on the record. But, I didn’t have any part in writing it – all Nick J. on that one.

Out of all the songs on the record, which would you say has the most personal meaning?
It’s funny. Even though I didn’t write it “S.O.S.”, then there’s “Hold On” is a good one. Let’s see … that’s a good question, I haven’t really thought about that one. Most people ask me which one is my favorite; they don’t ask which one means the most to me.

Oh, really?
Yeah. [Laughs] Thank you for asking me something new. Let’s see, trying to go through my head and see the track list of songs … you know, “Just Friends” probably.

We’ve heard the buzz around the net about the track “Hollywood”. By just looking at the title the song can be interpreted in so many ways. What’s it really about?
“Hollywood” is about a bunch of things. “Hollywood” really for us, it was a vision into the last year. All that has happened from moving to a new label, now kind of being based in Los Angeles as well; it’s kind of fun, ya know. It’s kind of a double meaning and there’s a lot of interesting things we’ve had happen to us. So, we’re just excited for it to be on the record and one of everyone’s favorite songs.

Kevin Jonas [Jonas Brothers]Your album is going to be the first release off Hollywood Records in the new CDVU+ format. Can you tell us more about that and what’s to be included?
The CDVU+ format is one of the most like technical things I’ve ever seen for an album, which makes us so happy. See there’s not going to be an actual jewel case inside the CD with album words, credits and things; everything you will get is on the computer. You’ll stick the CD into the computer and it will pop up, and it becomes a whole other internet world. It becomes its own Jonas Brothers magazine in a sense, and the CD case itself is actually made of 100% recycled material. So, in our generation today so many kids, so many teens, and old people … heh old people.. [Laughs] everyone is using like iTunes, and things like that, throwing away these CD cases. What do you do with them? So, we wanted to do something environmentally safe and at the same time, we wanted to do something brand new, kind of out of material no one has ever really used before.

What’s your own personal take on the new album? Did it turn out as you envisioned it would?
It really did, we had a clear vision honestly for what we wanted. We’ve really been able to carry it out, work hard, and you know make decisions; make choices and have them carry it out. It’s been an amazing time and experience, we’re just REALLY happy to be doing what we do … thank God for the new label and how much they’ve been such a support. We have a great home now.

Switching gears from the album. What’s a typical day out on the road for you?
A typical day … Do you want me to tell you about today? [Laughs] A typical day it all depends really on where we’re going of course, but most of our days start about 10 or 11 o’clock the night before. Make sense? We start driving over night to the next city, wherever we’re going, and we’ll arrive early in the morning. Get up, probably do a news station, radio interviews all morning, ya know; we’ll get on the bus and then we’ll go to the hotel, probably shower up early or whatever. Get ready to go to sound check, do probably two or three meet ‘n greets, then do the show … do the pre-sale meet ‘n greet, that we’ve been doing recently. Which is like the largest number we’ve had … 900 something people, we met all 900.

Wow! That’s a crazy day.
Yeah, it’s awesome. Then of course we get on the bus and do it all over again. But, for example, like tomorrow … we have a show in New York. All day long, we have prep from start to finish of the day, photo shoots, press conferences … everything.

Out of your set list, what song would you say gets the crowd most amped up?
Ooh, now that “S.O.S.” has been on TV, we got to witness that being played. Honestly it’s really amazing how much that song gets people freaking out about that. But, really “Hold On” is the song that people get … it just blows up.

Well, you do have a very dedicated fan base.
Aww, thank you. We really do have the most amazing fans. They come out and show their support in everything that we do; it’s really just one of those amazing things. They’re really our favorites.

Kevin Jonas [Jonas Brothers]Have you ever had a really crazy fan encounter?
Umm, crazy fan encounter? You know we meet some amazing people all the time that are pretty awesome. But, really we’re use to being out and talking to a lot of people. People have tried … you know they follow us to the hotel and things like that. We’re just nice and say ‘Hi’, no big deal.

We heard you guys keep in touch with fans via MySpace…
I’m actually on it as I’m talking to you..yeah. [Laughs]

Well, it can be hard when you’re on the road. What kinds of messages spark your interest to respond?
You know, it’s very all over the place honestly … it can change from one minute to the next. You know what I mean? It’s kind of cool actually, you’re talking to me as I’m pulling up behind – back of the stage where were playing today. This big kind of City Walk thing, it looks really cool. I’m excited. Sorry, I’m just putting that out there. But, when I’m looking at comments and stuff it’s hard, because I want to comment everyone … it’s SO hard to. Because we actually tested it yesterday, after “S.O.S.” premiered on TV, we literally had fifty comments. We couldn’t even see the comments, because they just kept going up and the one before would be gone.

Overwhelming …
Yeah, it kind of is. But, you know we love it, and try our best to stay in touch with as many people as possible.

Between schooling, recording, and touring and just being together 24/7, we know at times you just need your own space. How do you separate the “Jonas Brothers” from Kevin, Joe and Nick?
That’s actually a really great question. Honestly, we really try our best and work our hardest to…when we’re on our own, or being ourselves – we be ourselves. We don’t… I don’t know how to explain it best, but we just really try to be ourselves. We really work hard at not putting on a front or any of that stuff.

What’s your biggest pet peeve?
Pet peeve? Uhh, my bed not being made up before I get into it, I hate that.

In the free time you do have, what’s your favorite thing to do?
Whoo, I love to go like shopping and all that stuff. Sleep, because I don’t get to do that a lot. Yeah I don’t know, try to talk to friends, see friends.

NOTE: Unfortunately, our interview with Kevin had to be cut here, as he was called away to other obligations.
