Bevin PrinceDo you watch the WB teen drama One Tree Hill? If so, then you’ve seen Bevin Prince in action. She plays ditzy Raven cheerleader “Bevin”. We recently got to chat with her about cheering, her character, the new network merge with UPN, and more.

Hey, how are you?
I’m great! Finally worked for the first time today since Christmas. It was really nice to get back in there.

Oh really?
Yea, they had a lot of other stuff going on that “Bevin” hadn’t been involved in. So, I’ve just been hangin’ out.

When did you know you wanted to pursue a career in acting?
Oh gosh, for as long as I can remember. I think as soon as I could start talking, the first thing that came out of my mouth was I wanted to be an actress. My mother was a singer and always wanted to pursue it, and never did. She always pushed me to pursue my dreams of acting. I’ve always been making up my own plays in my room with the other kids in the neighborhood. It’s never been a question that it was what I wanted to do.

How did you get involved with One Tree Hill?
Actually I was a student at UNCW, and I think it was my Sophomore year that I was interning for the casting directors in Wilmington. One of the guys working in the office came to me and said ‘we need some cheerleaders, just for extra work. can I submit your photograph?’. He knew I had cheered all through high school, and did the dance team in college. I said ‘oh my gosh, please put me in. anything to get on set’. So, they ended up using me as one of the cheerleaders and then started auditioning out of the cheerleaders for lines. I got one, then they kind of just kept going with it. I’m just really lucky, it’s my first acting job and all really new for me. Also, to work on One Tree Hill with this cast and crew has been amazing … it’s really gonna spoil me.

Oh wow! Well, for it being your first job that has to be nerve racking.
Every time I step on set I’m terrified, and my knees are shaking. [laughs] It’s awful, I get so nervous and I just don’t want to mess anything up. I wanna come in do my job then get out real quick. I’m lucky I work with the people I do, they all support me and have gotten me to calm down a bit. But, I’m still nervous every time I go in there.

Bevin PrinceHow would you describe your character “Bevin?”
I would describe “Bevin” as your typical, teenage, suburban, cheerleader. Ya know, grew up in a great family, she’s a good girl that means well. She’s not really the brightest, but she doesn’t mean well. I would say she’s looking for something and is a bit of a follower.

On the show you play a Raven’s cheerleader, did you ever cheer in high school?
Yea, I cheered competitively all through high school and then did two dance teams. I was on a team equivalent to a JV squad where we did like women’s basketball, I did that my Freshman year. I took my Sophomore year off. Then when I transferred to UNCW, I joined the dance team again and got back into it. I never thought it would be this beneficial to me spending so much time cheerleading. I definitely thought it was going to be pointless and then I find myself at 23 going to cheerleading practice. Blows my mind. [laughs]

Do you ever hang out with the other actors off set? Who are you closest with?
Umm, Sophia Bush is one of my dearest friends. I’m so fortunate to have her in my life, she’s just one of the most charismatic, genuinely, kind people I have ever met…the biggest heart. She has just become such apart of my life and I’m so grateful for it. I don’t know what I’d do without her. I don’t think she’d hurt and ant or anything, just as kind as they come. Not a mean bone in her body.

What has been your favorite or most exciting episode you’ve filmed so far?
I think the most exciting episode for me by far would be the boy draft. It was so much fun because all of our cheerleaders had speaking roles that week. So, all of us were there together, and one of the girls has been there with me since season one. Then there was Sophia, Hilarie [Burton], Joy [Galeotti], and of course Danneel all together. We got to be girls all week, run around, be silly, talk about boys .. it was fun. It was a big episode for my character, so I was really nervous all week. But, I was lucky in having those girls there to help me, support and push me.

You’ve been in a lot more of season three, do you see your character having a more productive role? What kind of storyline would you like to do?
Ya know, I’m not sure. I’m just so fortunate to have the opportunity I have had thus far. I trust Mark Schwahn and every single writer on this team, so I just kind of let them lead the way. I know they won’t give me anything I can’t handle yet, but at the same time still push me.

Bevin Prince“Skills” and “Bevin” were an unlikely but, fun couple. Do you think Mark will be pursuing that relationship more?
Yes, absolutely I do. I think that’s all I can say though. [laughs]

Your “I totally ‘Notebooked’ him” line is a very popular quote among fans.

Good! That makes me SO happy. Antwon [Tanner] is really fun to work with, he’s pretty opposite from me but we’ve had the best time. We’ve started to become good friends. He’s so good at what he does, and takes a completely different approach at things than I do. He’s just SO funny, ya’ll are going to love some of the stuff coming up soon.

So, we do have something to look forward to coming up?
Oh yes, you’ll be seeing a lot more of “Skills” coming up.

The music is very popular on the show, in fact a lot of musicians have been getting noticed from having their songs played. Who are you currently listening to you that you would like heard on the show? Do you have a favorite that’s played so far?
I am a huge fan of Tyler Hilton. I love him and I will always love him. I just love his music, so anything he does I’m always supporting. I dunno…I hate to say it but I listen to a lot of the Top 40 stuff, which isn’t very One Tree Hill like. I love everything from the show though, and buy all the CDs. Oh, and of course Fall Out Boy! I loved having them on the show, I think they’re fantastic. The other band I’m loving right now would be Jack’s Mannequin.

Are there any upcoming projects you’re working with, or anything you can tell us about that’s coming up with your character on One Tree Hill?
Umm, you’re definitely going to be seeing more of “Bevin” and “Skills” as a couple. I think that’s all we can really talk about right now. I don’t know how far I can really go into things. So, I’m just going to keep my mouth shut and make you guys watch.

The Tree Hill couples are a big deal, everyone has a favorite whether it’s Naley, Leyton – you know Lucas and Peyton or maybe the Brooke and Lucas relationship. What couple are you most interested in watching?
Ya know, I really like “Nathan” and “Haley”. I love them together, I don’t know if it’s James [Lafferty] and Joy that I love so much. But, I just think they are the sweetest, most caring couple. It’s so cute to watch. Oh, and “Peyton” and “Jake” … I’m so sad that’s gone.

Nathan and Haley are that couple that make you go “Oh, I want a boyfriend”.
Yea, they’re so sweet to each other. But I like how things in their relationship are not right with them yet. They still have a few kinks to work out, and it’s exciting to watch that unfold. Every time I get a script I just flip to those pages. [laughs]

Now for many fans like myself, One Tree Hill is their must-see TV show of the week. Do you have a show that you’re really into right now?
Well, I have to say … honestly I really love American Idol. I’m so glad it’s back on, except nobody’s allowed to watch it on Wednesday nights anymore. You can watch it on Tuesday, just not Wednesday when One Tree Hill is one. [laughs] I’m also completely into Grey’s Anatomy, it’s my new favorite show. I love the writing, the characters – it’s really become a staple in the week for me. I get so excited every Sunday night.

Bevin PrinceYesterday, we were all hit with the big news of the WB merging with the UPN network. All of us are really behind the show, and don’t want to see it get cut. We want you all to know that you have our support.
Thank you so much!

Fans are already writing petition letters, throwing out ideas of bombarding with mini basketballs and little trees. Do you have any ideas on what the fans can do to get heard?
That’s amazing! I definitely do think they check the fan sites, and listen when you send in. But above all to make sure you get heard, is to get all your friends to tune in on Wednesday nights at 8PM. The ratings don’t go unnoticed, if people are watching they’re gonna keep it around.

Well, let me just say thank you so much for the interview. I’ve enjoyed talking with you so much.
Aww, thank you so much. It’s been really fun, I enjoyed it too.
