Jada[L-R: April, Lauren, Elle, & Jacyn]

Hi guys! How are you?
Jacyn:
We are doing great! Busy as usual writing new songs and recording every day here in the studio!

First off, how did you ladies get together?
Lauren:
We all got together through an open audition at Bristol Studios in Boston. Ric and Laura Poulin own the studio, wanted to put together a girl group, and JADA was formed!

Where did the name of the group spark from?
Elle:
It was a name we all liked—short, sweet, and easy to remember!

How would you describe your music to readers who have not had the chance to hear it?
Jacyn:
Funky pop/r&b with a hint of soul and rock—kind of like if Destiny’s Child and Kelly Clarkson and EnVogue had a baby…that would be us!
April: Yea its def got a very dance-like feel to it.

Who are some of your musical influences?
Lauren:
I love singers like Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Aretha Frankin, Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder, Brian McKnight, the greats! I also love Boyz II Men and EnVogue. They have all inspired me to sing the way I sing today.
Elle: I love Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Brian McKnight and so many others.
April: Probably, Alicia Keys, Christina, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Usher, Justin, Kelly Clarkson.

JadaYou guys have shared the stage with popular performers such as B2K, JoJo and Aaron Carter, what was that like for you?
Lauren:
So much fun! I love performing with nationally known acts, because it is good to see what other performers are doing and they always attract a huge audience which is good for us too.
Elle: It is so fun to perform with those guys, we learn so much from them and the experience is amazing with all of those screaming fans.
April: Its been awesome, because these people are doing this on the level we’re about to be on, so we get to talk to them about what it’s like for them and whatnot which is pretty coo. Also, like the other girls said, there are so many fans at those shows, just freaking out for the show, so it’s cool for us to get a taste of that.

What do you think of the comparisons of Jada to Christina Aguilera and Destiny’s Child?
April:
That’s probably one of the nicest things someone could say about us, since we look up to them and they are so talented.
Lauren: Love it! You can also add EnVogue if you so desire.
Jacyn: I love it! We admire all of those artists! Hopefully our career will be as successful!
Elle: It can only be a compliment.

Do you have any pre-show rituals?
Lauren:
[Laughs]We have a few but one in particular stands out. It is too scandalous for words!
Jacyn: I enjoy sitting in solitude in the lotus position…..in silence…[laughs] NAH, the girls and I usually will wish each other a good show with some silly hand shake or something….sometimes we get CRAZY as well!
Elle: [Laughs] Can’t tell you!
April: As a group yes, but we’re gonna keep you wondering on that one [laughs], as for me, I usually listen to music that pumps me up really loud in my headphones. Like, I blast it [laughs].

Do you have any memorable or funny stories from past performances you could share with us?
Lauren:
Being at the Grammy’s on the red carpet was one of the most memorable for me. We had so much fun and it was such a trip to be there with all of those celebrities! We talked to every camera we saw and got on E!, VH1, and MTV. I had to pinch myself, it was so amazing!

Jacyn: The Grammy’s were the BEST…even though we didn’t perform it was amazing! As far as performances go, I love aspects from all of our shows…we get into mischief wherever we go!!! At least none of us have lost entire articles of clothing while dancing…[laughs].
Elle: My most memorable performance is the B2K show we did, it was so much fun.
April: I agree with the girls on the Grammy’s. Def. won’t forget that. There have been a few times when my mic wouldn’t work which was pretty funny, and we’ve had some crazy fans get on stage and try to dance with us which is always really funny. [Laughs]

JadaWhich of your songs is your personal favorite to perform?
April:
My favorite is “Just Chill”, it’s fun and I like the choreography . I like performing “Testify” too.
Lauren: I love our version of “Oh, Darlin'” by The Beatles. We go nuts on that song!
Jacyn: Our newest song “Girlfriend” is fun! We just debuted it the other night with a live band! It was rad!
Elle: I love performing “Oh Darlin'” and “Just Sayin’,'” we get to be silly on that song.

What made each of you want to pursue a career in the music industry?
Lauren:
Well, I have been singing, acting, and dancing since I was a little girl and always knew I wanted to be in the entertainment industry, but didn’t know from what angle. The day that I really wanted to be a pop-singer was when I saw a flyer up at Emerson College–that’s where I went to school, saying “Wanna be a pop star? Come to an open audition at Bristol Studios!”. I was hooked and new I had to be in this group. I got in and the rest is history! whew!
Jacyn: From the time I could speak, I knew I wanted to be a performer… I think I was a Broadway actress in a past life!
Elle: I love singing in every way so I always wanted to do this, I’ve never wanted anything else.
April: I don’t have a specific time that I decided to do this, I’ve just always been doing it. I started dancing when I was two, and acting when I was in like 3rd pr 4th grade. I did choir in middle school and stuff, and started really singing about two or three years ago. Nothing else ever felt right to me, this was the only thing that made me happy. Even when I was off stage I was putting on a show, usually for my mom or my stuffed animals or something [laughs].

JadaThe boy-band craze was very popular at one point, but has still seemed to never fade out. We don’t hear as much about girl-groups, do you feel it’s harder for female groups to be successful rather than being a soloist?
Lauren:
Not at all. Right now is the perfect time for a girl-group, because there really hasn’t been any like us. I think it is harder for a soloist because there are so many out there right now! I think we have an advantage because of the fact that we are a girl-group.
April: Def. not and Destiny’s Child has lined the road for other girl groups to start being super successful again . I’m with Lauren, right now is the perfect time. Plus, why would you want one girl when you can have four??? [Laughs]

What message do you hope your listeners take from your music?
April:
We just want our listeners to relate to our music and feel good in some way after they’ve heard it, Its about creating an effect. A good one.

Are there any special plans for the future of Jada that you could share with FANVASION?
Elle:
We are going to be doing a lot of recording so look out for new JADA songs to come out. Keep your eyes out for us, we’re moving fast.
