After seeing Freaky Friday, not only did I leave the theater loving the movie, but the music as well. I went out and purchased the soundtrack and realized … it wasn’t a waste of money.

The soundtrack opens with Lindsay Lohan’s (the star of the movie) song “Ultimate.” Which is pretty much a poppy song with a rock attempt. Two of the actresses out of the movie, Lindsay and costar Christina Vidal both have songs on the soundtrack yet both sing backup for each other along with Hayley Hudson who was also in the movie. Christina’s song on the other hand, which is titled “Take Me Away” is the exact opposite…a rock tune with a pop attempt. Maybe that was the point?…uh who knows..

Artist featured on the album go from pop to rock for an album trying to appeal to all of today’s teens. One of my favorite songs would have to be Simple Plan’s cover of The Turtles “Happy Together” which plays in the opening credits of the movie. Jessica Simpson’s sister Ashlee even gets a part of the action with her song “Just Let Me Cry” which is actually pretty good, and sounds a lot like a remake of No Doubt’s “Ex-Girlfriend.”

Time and time again you find yourself bopping your head and singing a long to the lyrics and others you just feel like nodding off to…half way through the album what do you stumble across…of course, “…Baby One More Time” covered by Bowling For Soup. The track is introduced by an a capella version taken from a scene in the film and performed by actor, Chad Michael Murray. I really hope he wasn’t trying to sing that, but if gives you a good laugh on the album as well as in the movie.

I would recommend this album if you like the artist on the record but hey, even if you’re not familiar with their music…after listening to this…you might end up a fan. You might not. You decide for yourself.

Standout Tracks: Lillix “What I Like About You”, American Hi-Fi “The Art Of Losing”, Ashlee Simpson “Just Let Me Cry”.
