SPOTLIGHT:
BRICK&LACE
Part urban singers and part
urbane songstresses, sibling duo
Brick&Lace
are genre-busters who staunchly defy the 30-second pitch. The amalgamated sound
that makes up their Kon Live/180 Ent./Geffen debut,
Love Is Wicked,
is unique, though also at once very familiar.
Born to a Jamaican father and
an American mother and raised predominantly in Kingston, Jamaica –on an opulent
musical diet of reggae, R&B, hip hop, pop and country– Nyanda and Nailah
Thorbourne couldn't help but be trans-eclectic. "We are a hybrid," affirms
Nailah in her effortlessly sexy West-Indian lilt. "It's not fabricated at all;
it's who we are."
To the ladies of Brick&Lace,
their name represents the duality and complexity of the everywoman. "Sometimes
you want to wear a cap and sneakers and look grimy," Nyanda tells. "And
sometimes you want to wear your sexy dress and heels and look cute." Nailah puts
it all in perspective: "People always ask: 'Who is Brick&Lace?' And we always
tell them it depends on the day!"
This unpredictability and
uncompromising expressiveness makes
Love Is Wicked
(the first release on Akon’s own label, Kon Live) an aural delight. On their
agile down-bottom introductory single "Never Never," over Akon's seething
sonic brew, Brick & Lace caution wayward suitors to behave themselves if they
want a chance with the sisters. "The track's so grimy that the lyrics and the
arrangement just came to us," Nailah recalls enthusiastically. "It was a very
collaborative effort that was fun and exciting to record all the way." [

COLBY
O'DONIS
- THE HIT MAKER
The name on everybody's lips is
COLBY O'DONIS,
and who can blame them when Colby's first single, "What You Got", featuring
Akon is tearing up the charts!
At the young age of 19, you would think Colby was just getting his feet wet in
the industry, but that couldn't be further from the truth. He starting recording
songs when he was only 8 years-old with legendary producers, Full Force, only to
start producing himself by 12.
While recording his record, he shared his love of writing and production along
with Akon, who signed Colby to his record label Konvict Music. "We've recorded
so many songs for this project—maybe forty or so—it was hard to get it down to a
manageable number," says Colby. "The writing process has been so much fun, and
it has been great working with Akon. On the real, he is a very humble guy."
You can expect
Colby's debut album, Colby O to drop in stores sometime this summer.

We're invading you yet again with must-hear-music! We're talking about 19-year-old North London singer,
ADELE who
just happens to be our new favorite artist and sure to
be yours too! Adele has been hailed by the British press as "the new Amy Winehouse", but we believe
- along with Duffy, that these ladies are bringing back female empowering soul
and jazz music to the top of the Top 40 charts.
While her record is filled with brilliant beats, acoustic melodies,
tantalizing hooks, and haunting vocals, one song that stands out for us is the
track "Hometown Glory". You may be familiar with it considering it
earned rave reviews from viewers who heard played on the hit
British teen drama, Skins and one of the top television dramas on this
side of the pond, One Tree Hill, who is partially known breaking new
music.
But, don't just take
our word for it -- even though we think she's amazing. Download "Hometown Glory"
off iTunes or visit
her official
MySpace and prepare to be mesmerized.
